“Celebration! Laughter! Drama! Romance!” Join us for this very special FREE outdoor, social-distancing presentation of the world’s longest-running, most charming musical ever!
“THE FANTASTICKS” by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt, is a funny and romantic musical about a boy, a girl, and their two fathers who try to keep them apart. The narrator, El Gallo, asks the audience to use their imagination and follow him into a world of moonlight and magic. The boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart and finally find their way back to each other. The Fantasticks ran Off-Broadway for over 42 years, and with good reason: at the heart of its breathtaking poetry is a purity and simplicity that transcends cultural barriers. The result is a timeless fable of love that manages to be nostalgic and universal at the same time.
This show will be held outdoors in Hufnagle Park, with masking and social distancing safety measures in effect, and will be absolutely FREE admission, as our way of saying ‘thank you’ to our community. It has been a very difficult year for the performing arts, and we want you to know that we are still here, and live theatre is still alive in the Central Susquehanna Valley!
This beautiful, intimate musical will cost us approximately $3,025 to produce (including the licensing rights, music, materials) and so we are asking for your help in raising that amount through donations at www.gofundme.com/riverstage-fantasticks. All proceeds will help make this show possible, as well as help us to pay the rent on our mainstage theatre at Greenspace Center, which has been empty since the pandemic began in March. Any donation of ANY size will help make an impact and ensure that our all-volunteer, community-based nonprofit live theatre will be able to keep producing great live theatre in 2021 and beyond! Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to us.
Thank you for your support, and we hope to see you at the show!
